              CSS - Frequently Asked Questions

How does a soup CSA work?

Instead of the box of produce that you normally hear about with a CSA, we deliver soup, thus we call our subscription a CSS (Community Supported Soup) on a weekly basis. Both the soups and our baked goods are 100% vegan, gluten-free and sattvic.

Where and when can I pick up a subscription?

Orders are delivered weekly on Thursdays to a variety of locations in Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Cary. Contact us for specific locations. For all pick-up locations, subscribers have at least a 6 hour window to pick-up their orders.

What happens if I’m out of town?

Just let us know ahead of time, and we'll give you a double share another week of your choosing. Alternatively, you are free to gift your subscription to a friend and have them pick-up on your behalf.

I have a food allergy, can I still sign up?

All of our soups are 100% vegan and gluten-free. We are mindful of common allergens, and will always have one option each week that is free of soy, corn, tree nuts, nightshades, and/or cilantro. Please email us with any restrictions, so we know how to best serve you.

How do I find out what will be delivered each week?

A newsletter goes out on Monday mornings describing the soup and baked goods for that week. We do not publish a menu for the full 8 weeks ahead of time, because what we make is contingent on the availability of produce that fluctuates throughout the year.

How is the subscription different from the soups available at the Farmers’ Market?

The subscription is all about making it easy for folks to get soup on a weekly basis.  No more needing to remember to place and order or dealing with parking at the farmers’ market.  Order once to secure your spot; then you’re guaranteed two delicious dinners once a week. Each week’s soups are the chef’s choice designed to surprise and delight.

Can soups be frozen?

Yes, most of our soups are perfect for the freezer, but are always delivered fresh via the subscription.

What kind of containers do you use?

Generally our soups are packaged by the pint in BPA-free plastic containers that are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. They are also recyclable. Customers who sign up for the CSS will also have the option to pay a deposit for 4 translucent, reusable eco-takeout containers that will be returned each week to be re-sanitized and then put back into circulation.

How can my house become a pick-up location?

We are always looking for new pick-up locations to add to our delivery roster. If your home has a covered outdoor space (carport or front porch are ideal) and an outlet nearby for the refrigerator, let's talk! Folks hosting one of our mini fridges at their house get 50% off of subscriptions.

Is Govinda's Catering inspected?

We are inspected by the Durham County Health Department and currently have a score of 98.5%
